At the time of sharing my blog it is mid January, so to look back to the summer is a pleasant place to be hope you enjoy too; except I did not finish until the beginning of this summer holidays in fact today! Its been a full on year too much work travel setting me back. I still hope you enjoy, as we start another summer holiday in our home by the sea!
Summer means our cosy hide away by the North Norfolk coast, West Runton and we spend all summer enjoying the slower pace no matter the weather. Its looking like we have a routine of what we like to do through the holiday with family and friends dropping by. A picturesque synopsis of our family holidays starting with my picture of the summer, hope you agree!
A feel for what West Runton beach can offer, a few scenic views starting with 'The Mammoth'
Low tide on the crest shaped flint bed
Looking at Beeston Bump
n
On the cliff looking down on the flint crest as the tide is coming in. How beautiful are these views! Wandering over these flint beds for a few hours at low tide is a real favourite to lose yourself and enjoy nature. Then on a walk along the cliffs we saw a baby seal on the waters edge, resting.
Day 1 of the holiday guests showed-up and a partying get-together occurred, very unplanned and then our six weeks alcohol was consumed. I managed to sort food which went down well and then Dylan was in charge, nothing like family partying. Next day we were off to see our neighbours; Aunty Rachel & Uncle Roger!
Just to prove we got in the sea with Dylan, fantastic but scary at the risk of losing my specs! The worst part being hot in that wetsuit after the walk to the beach and the cold seawater seeps in then its perfect; we rode those waves like a beached whale, well I did!
All the way through our holiday I walked, 99% of the time over Beeston Bump, with the occasional company of Dylan. You ask perhaps Jerry, don't make me laugh he was always horizontal, bed or chair in the sun, although always ready with a breakfast bacon & egg bap when I got back!
A wet morning walk to Sheringham and beyond to the look-out hut beside the golf course.
A trip to Blakeney to see the seals is always enjoyed, got a bit wetter than expected, always a story to be enjoyed on those boats.
Waiting for the sea to come in to get on the boat; when the water came in it filled these channels really quickly!
Smiley grey seals; are they laughing at us!!!
Soaked on the way home as the wind picked up and we sat on the splashy side of the boat!
Treated ourselves to a Saturday night at the theatre; Sheringham Theatre to watch 'Phoney Fools & Horses'. All a bit close to the edge with a 12yr old, but great fun as the tribute play all the key characters with just three actors. They noticed Dylan being the only child in the audience!
Sand castle building is always a must, we love it especially when the tide is going out to facilitate water in the moat and flowing rivers.
Always have a trip or two or three to Sheringham Indian, since won the accolade as best Indian in the region. At the beginning of August our trip was to celebrate 8yrs of Steggles Consultancy Ltd. Such a great restaurant; we usually walk to Sheringham in suits and heels getting the train back. Except on the occasion we waited at the train station when a train strike was in full flow not relating what was happening nationally to our seaside holiday. Resulted in picking up a bus to get to the Indian and scrambled for a taxi to get back, via the Social Club.
Later back at the caravan the celebrating continued; poor Dylan!
Next day bit calmer as we wandered museums also in Sheringham, with surprising connections to home; started with the private lifeboat led by the Upcher family. Dylan was sharing historical events with the guide, in his element
Always time for coffee & cake!
Shell museum, interesting but what do you do with these creations.
Then lunch or an all day breakfast.
Lastly 'The Mo', RLNI past & present with a fabulous look out and telescopes to view the wind farm and sea traffic; very bloke!
My caravan garden is growing nicely; pass time to empty the brain and indulge in trivia and relaxation, yep stone-painting. Celebrating our Queen, Lionesses success, end of Neighbours and my 32mile walk.
Always love the Cromer End of Pier Show with India and our adopted aunt Sharon, who is completely bonkers. A great family variety show until the guest singer Fernando sang, there was no holding Sharon back much to the discomfort of Dylan/Jerry. Shazza was up and dancing in the aisle and being serenaded by Fernando, looking desperate for an invite onto the stage. There is no hesitation had she got that invite she would have scrambled over us to get there in no time at all, likely a nice family show turned into something less family. (Fernando is bottom middle, nice young man from USA!). Followed by fish & chips at No1 Cromer Road, over looking the sea finished with ice-cream and crazy golf. Love this day out!
Show finale!
Stunning view of Cromer seaside from the restaurant
Always lovely to have India stay with us, next day surfing in quite a rugged sea crashing waves, so a little overwhelming but they enjoyed each others company.
After a weekend of not doing a lot in the sun;
Dylan creation of strawberries dipped in chocolate. Enjoyed!
Followed by more visitors for the day being Aunty Sara with Finley and Llwella, who found her interest in fossils and shiny stones after being brave in the waves supported by the boys.
Beach tent which stayed up this time, ahh put up correctly Jerry! Nothing like a seaside doughnut.
Another visitor, off to the Corner House for lunch; brotherly love!
Took a change of scenery and visited Felbrig Hall, a very English home; relishing a cream tea or two whilst we were there wandering both the house and walled gardens.
Savoured a number of trips into Sheringham, often to just walk the 'bump' to the Lifeboat and back. Occasionally to take in other treasurers such as artist friends, being Mel and her friend David as they share a show and also both have a presence on a number of murals in the area/town.
Joined some of the Lifeboat celebrations but missed most of them at the boating lake and surprisingly not very chatty enthusiasts!
Now that's an impressive picture, even if I say so myself!
'Rodent enjoying a blackberry.
Keeping up our usual routines too when we are away; practising his keyboard daily (nearly), cook his own breakfast & hanging out with his caravan mates (yep middle child is a boy with the most gorgeous blond curly hair!)
I went back to work in between trips. The next being our dear friends Val & Matthew who came to join us for a few days staying in a local B&B. Our venture being our annual steam train ride from Sheringham to Holt out for lunch, then this year with many trips between the two stops through the day. The day absolutely poured with rain so perfect for the train & grown men sniffing the air!
Again brotherly love :)
In the signal box between stops.
Sheringham ice-creams, so windy the ice-cream was blown off the cones :)
Almost at the end of our summer holidays and we go to Sheringham theatre to watch 'Summer Holidays', never seen all the way through but know its origins are associated with Cliff Richard and a light hearted story.
A great show travelling all the way to South of France in such a small space!
After seeing the show Nanny Sandra arrived with a Cliff Richard DVD, to really appreciate the value of such an authentic movie, how lucky are we to such an education - loved it :)
Nanny Sandra & Grandad Kevin, with a grandson in the middle!
Holiday coming to an end we had a trip to the local Thai in the village, great meal and the art of 'twerking' Sharon style, see for yourself!
Packed up and gone home for a finale holiday treat. Off to the Palladium in London to enjoy a show delivered by 'Tim Peake', hero of British Aerospace. Magnificent story teller, a joy to be part of his space adventures.
End of a great holiday ready to start year 8 (to us oldies second year of High School). Little snippet of how he has enjoyed his year!
Achieved !
How many boys fit under a small umbrella at the bus stop?
Part of the success of getting silver & gold awards , is the 'perk' points to exchange for a sausage roll. We regularly receive pictures of the sausage rolls, on Wednesday's!
After school activities, this was Halloween with the request to be a Roman soldier zombie; made by mainly Jerry from cardboard, the helmet over his cycle hat & towel was the skirt!
