I start my posting with a striking winter scene from our front door. A contrast of the icy frost and the brilliance of the morning winter sun. Alternatively perhaps a stark contrast for all you folks who live in warmer climes, especially if you have escaped the UK to avoid these scenes, no worries on our part as we are toasty in our van playing in the awning!
Ladies, mostly, of a certain age at a certain time in their lives fall into either a preference for Donny Osmond or David Cassidy and that preference sticks for life. There is no doubt I am in the Donny camp! I shared a bedroom with my sisters and remember having to put up with posters of David Cassidy and the Bay City Rollers!! So when the chance came along to go to a Donny Osmond concert, in relative terms on my doorstep, I jumped at it and what a night Jerry and I had. It was fantastic.
The concert was in Brighton, so I booked The Grand and remembered its 80ies history, interested to stay there and the concert was just next door. It was everything I had hoped for, a pleasant luxury experience with attentive staff and felt like we were ‘skipping school’ in the middle of the week. We spent time sipping wine people watching picking out the Donny fans.
The concert was just next door and our seats in the stalls, perfect to be close enough to admire the teenage antics of the middle-aged Donny fans. The concert was amazing as we watched Donny all night long, emotional being in awe of actually being in front of Donny watching him sing and groove. The show was also all about the audience as Donny acknowledged his lifetime of fans admiring their dedication to him. He encouraged the audience to come to the front of the stage – hold his hand – take a picture with him – he went out into the audience too. A really touching moment for everybody was when an 11 yrs. hard of hearing boy sang Joseph with Donny. The boy was holding Donny’s gaze and in tears, not a dry eye in the house! I spoke with a lady later in The Grand toilets who was someone who went on stage. She said she had caught his eye and he asked her if she wanted to come on stage she said all she could say was “Donny I love you!”, hung on to his hand as she was swept along battling other women who were trying to pull her away, but successfully got on stage and had a cuddle, kiss and picture. It was hilarious and wonderful. Definitely one to reminisce, hope you enjoy my little bit of video of a clip of the show, one I will treasure!!
